RISKY BUISNESS

DURING THE SUMMER MANY TEENS WORK DURING THE SUMMER TO AVOID BEING BORED AND JUST SITTING AROUND BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOTHING. WORKING PUTS YOU IN A NEW PLACE WITH NEW PEOPLE AND NEW EXPERIENCES BUT IT ALSO HAS ITS OWN HEALTH HAZARDS AS WELL. JOBS LIKE WORKING IN A RESTURANTS CAN POSE SOME THREATS TO BOTH YOUR HEALTH AND EVEN TO YOUR LIFE. YOU CAN HAVE ANYWHERE FROM BURNS TO BROKEN OR FRACTURED BONES AND ANYTHING IN BETWEEN. EVEN WORKING IN RETAIL AS WELL CAN HAVE SOME THREATS AS WELL. DOING RETAIL JOBS CAUSE THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF DEATHS AMONG YOUNGE WORKERS. HARD TO BELIEVE BUT ITS TRUE. ANOTHER RISKY JOB TO BE INTO IS HEAVY-MACHINERY JOBS LIKE LANDSCAPING, AND CONSTRUCTION. THESE JOBS ARE ILLIGAL FOR TEENS UNDER 18 TO GO INTO BECAUSE OF ALL OF THE HEAVY MACHINERY AS WELL. EVEN THOUGH THEY DO PAY A LOT OF MONEY IT CAN ALSO COST YOU YOUR HEALTH AND LIFE AS WELL. EVEN SOME OF THE SIMPLIST JOBS CAN BE HARMFUL IN MANY WAYS YOU COULD NEVER IMAGINE. SO DURING THE SUMMER WHEN MOST YOU MIGHT EVEN BE THINKING THAT WORKING WOULD BE FUN, THINK TWICE BEFORE DOING ANYTHING YOU MIGHT REGRET.

HIGH TECH NURSING

DONNA MUSSER IS A REGISTERED NURSE AT CHEROKEE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN SCOTTSDALE ARIZONA. SHE ONCE HAD TO SAVE A SMALL 8 YEAR OLD BOY NAMES MICHAEL HIGGINS WHEN HE WAS WALKING TO CLASS. HE COLLOPSED AND ALMOST DIED BUT SHE WAS THERE TO SAVE HIS LIFE. WITH THIS STORY IT SHOWS THAT NURSES USE ALL KIND OF INTERESTING HIGH TECH DEVISES TO HELP ANYONE IN NEED OF SOME KIND OF MEDICAL HELP. LIKE WHEN MEASURING A PATIENTS OXYGEN LEVEL. THEY CAN TELL BY A PERSONS DISCOLORATION OF A PERSONS LIPS AND FINGERNAILS. THERE IS A DEVISE THAT THE NURSE PUTS ON THE END OF THEIR PATIENTS FINGER AND IT MEASURES THE PATIENTS OXYGEN LEVEL. PAUL SMITH IS A TRAINED REGISTERED NURSE FIRST ASSIST FROM COLLEYVILL, TEXAS. HE IS TRAINED IN ENDOSCOPIC VEIN HARVESTING IN WHICH A LARGE VEIN IN THE LEG CAN REROUTE BLOOD AROUND A BLOCKED ARTERY IN THE HEART. SO REGISTERED NURSES ARE SO MUCH MORE THAN BEING KNOWN FOR JUST TAKING TEPATURES AND GIVING FLU SHOTS. REGISTERED NURSES ALL OVER ARE SAVING LIVES EITHER AT SCHOOLS TO HOSPITALS. SO BECOMING A REGISTERED NURSE IS VERY BENIFITING IN THE END AND CAN CHANGE AS WELL AS SAVE LIVES.

MAKING SCENTS

HANNA FOLLIS WORKS AT A RESEARCH COMPANY AND DEVELOPMENT CHEMIST AT ILLUME [ A CANDLE MANUFACTURER IN BLOOMINGTON MINN]. SHE STARTED GETTING INTERESTED IN THIS FIELD IN HIGH SCHOOL WHEN SHE ENJOYED GOING TO BIOLOGY. THEN IN COLLEGE SHE MAJORED IN THE CLASS THAT SHE THOUGHT WAS SO INTERESTING TO HER WHICH WAS BIOLOGY AND TOOK ALITTLE BIT OF CHEMISTRY. THESE CLASSSES PREPAIRED HER TO WORK IN THE FIELD WHICH SHE IS IN NOW WHICH IS CREATING SCENTS OR PERFUMES FOR CANDLES. SOMETIMES WHEN CREATING A SCENTS IT CAN TAKE ABOUT 100 SCENTS OR MORE TO GET THAT CERTAIN SCENTS THAT SHE IS LOOKING FOR. FOLLIS EXPLAINS “A MASTER PERFUMER NEEDS TO KNOW CHEMISTRY WELL AND NEEDS TO BE CREATIVE”. FOR HER FUTURE GOALS SHE WANTS TO HAVE THAT ONE SCENT THAT SHE CAN CALL HER OWN. FOR EXAMPLE LIKE CHANEL’S CHANCE OR DOLCE AND OTHER POPULAR SCENTS. SHE ALSO WANTS TO STUDY IN THE MEDICAL FIELD AS WELL. SHE SAYS “ I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO FIND A CAREER THAT COMBINES SCINECE AND MY … INTEREST IN FRAGRANCE”. SHE ALSO ENCOURAGES THOSE WHO WANT TO PERSUE GOING TO COLLEGE AS WELL NO MATTER WHAT FIELD THEY ARE INTERESTED IN.

EVERYWHERE A SIGN..

IN THE UNITED STATES OVER 28 MILLION PEOPLE ARE DEAF OR HAVE SOME KIND OF HEARING PROBLEM.IN 1990 THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT STARTED AND IT AIDED PEOPLE WITH ANY KIND OF DISABILITY EVEN PEOPLE WITH HEARING PROBLEMS. MANY PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERPRETERS TAKE COLLEGE CLASSES AND THEN AFTER THAT GO AND HELP OTHER PEOPLE WITH HEARING IMPAIRMENTS AND THEN CAN LATER LEAD TO MANY OTHER OPTIONS. MANY TIMES THE INTERPRETERS GET ASKED IF THEIR HANDS EVER GET TIRED AND THEY RELPY “NO, BUT MY BRAIN GETS TIRED.” SOMETIMES IF ANY CONVERSATION LAST MAYBE MORE THAN 20 MINUTES, THEY JUST TAKE TURNS. THESE INTERPRETERS CAN REALLY GET TIRED AND GO THROUGH SOME KINDA OF MENTAL FATIGUE BY JUST HELPING OTHERS, BUT IN THE END ITS ALL WORTH I T. IF SOME PEOPLE ARE INTERESTED IN THIS KIND OF FIELD AT AN EARLY AGE, SOME HIGH SCHOOLS OFFER THE COURSE AND AND ITS NEVER TO LATE TO LEARN IT EITHER. MANY PEOPLE THINK THAT LEARNING SIGN LANGUAGE IS REALLY HARD BUT ITS ALL ABOUT DETERMINATION AND HOW MUCH THEY REALLY WANT TO NOT ONLY HELP THEMSELVES LEARN THIS SORT OF LANGUAGE BUT HELP OTHERS AS WELL

PICTURE POWER

SOMETIMES WE DO PICTURE OUR SELVES DOING SOMETHING GREAT AND THATS NOT A BAD THING. THAT GIVES US THE MOTIVATION TO DO SOMETHING REALLY BIG AND GIVES US SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO. THE THING IS THAT YOU ALREADY KNOW HOW TO DO IT. WHEN YOU IMAGINE THESE THINGS IT HELPS YOU CREATE A SPACIFIC PICTURE AND THE BEST THING TO DO IS TO CREATE IT WITH A POSTER BOARD, GLUE AND PICTURE OF WHAT YOU WANT TO DO. THE FIRST THING IS YOUR GOALS. IT CAN BE SHORT TERM OR LONG TERM. THEN START ASKING YOURSELF THINGS LIKE WHAT DO I ENJOY DOING,WHAT DO I WANT TO DO AND THINGS LIKE THAT. THEN AFTER DOING THAT, YOU C AN START TO CREATE YOUR OWN COLLAGE. YOU JUST START WITH CUTTING OUT PICTURES THAT REPRESENT YOUR GOALS, LOOK FOR WORDS, SAYINGS, QUOTES OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. THEN AFTER YOU DID THAT START TO SORT ALL OF YOUR PICTURES AND SAYINGS, AND THEN FINALLY ASSEMBLE IT. WHEN YOUR DONE YOU CAN PLACE IT SOMEWHERE YOU CAN SEE IT EVERYDAY TO REMIND YOU OF YOUR OWN GOALS, AND HAVE IT INSIRE YOU TO COMPLETE YOUR GOALS THAT YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH.

PROCEED WITH CAUTION

BEFORE HEADING INTO THE REALY WORLD MANY TEENS TRY TO AVOID MAKING MISTAKES THAT COULD EVENTUALLY LEAD THEM INTO SOME PLACE THAT THEY DONT WANT TO BE IN LATER ON IN THEIR LIFE. AS LINDSEY POLLACK WHO IS THE AUTHOR OF GETTING FROM COLLEGE TO CAREER: 90 THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOU JOIN THE REAL WORLD SAYS "CAREER PLANNING CAN BE HARD. DONT MAKE IT HARDER BY GETTING IN YOUR OWN WAY. BE SURE TO TAKE THE SONG VIEW IN CONSIDERING CAREER CHOICES, AND AVOID MISTAKES THAT CAN PUT PRESSURE ON YOURSELF." THE CHOICES AND HOW YOU FACE SOME OF THESE THINGS CAN AFFECT WHAT YOU CHOSE NOW AND WHAT YOUR RESULTS WILL BE LATE ON IN YOUR LIFE.

1.) SAYING " i CANT"
SAYING I CANT BEFORE YOU DO SOMETHING OR EVEN TRYING SOMETHING ELSE MEANS THAT YOU ALREADY PUT YOURSELF OUT FOR FAILURE. IF YOU NEVER TRY SOMETHING THAT MAY SEEM TO IMPOSSIBLE, YOU NEVER WOULD KNOW WHAT YOU COULD GAIN OR EVEN SUCCEED AT IN REAL LIFE. JEFF ESPOSITO 26, WHO WENT TO A SCHOOL COUNCELOR ABOUT HAVING A CAREER IN SPORTS, AND THE COUNCELOR BASICALLY PUT HIM DOWN AND SAID HE WOULD NEVER DO IT. THEN HE TRIED IT AND IN THE END HE PERSUED HIS DREAM AND LANDED AN INTERNSHIP WITH THE BALTIMORE RAVES AND THEN LATER ON LANDED A JOB RUNNING THE PUBLIC RELATIONS DEPARTMEN OF A MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TEAM.

2.) GETTiNG DOLLAR SiGHNS iN YOUR EYES
WHEN MANY STUDENTS LOOK FOR A CAREER CHOICE, MANY TIMES THEY JUST LOOK AT THE MONEY AND NOT WHAT THEY REALLY WANT TO DO. MONEY SHOULD BE A FACTOR BUT NOT THE ONLY ONE. DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO REALLY AND NOT REALLY THINK SO MUCH BUT SOME ABOUT THE MONEY. THERE WAS A RECENT STUDY DONE BY THE CONFERENCE BOARD, A NEW YORK ORG. OF BUISNESS EXECUTIVES, FOUND THAT ONLY 14 % OF PEOPLE MAKING MORE THAN $50, 000 WERE "VERY SATISFIED" WITH THEIR JOBS. MANY PEOPLE DONT REALLY RELIZE THAT MAKING A WHOLE LOT OF MONEY SOMETIMES ISNT THE VERY BEST, BUT BEING TRULEY HAPPY AND LOOKING FORWARD TO WORK AND JUST ENJOYING WHAT YOU REALLY DO IS WHAT MATTERS.

3.) DOiNG WHAT YOUR PARENTS EXPECT-OR WHAT YOU THINK THEY EXPECT
MANY TIMES PEOPLE ONLY ASSUME ONLY WHAT THEIR PARENTS WANT OR EXPECT OUT OF THEM WHEN THEY AVOID WHAT THEY WANT TO DO. THE REALITY OF IT ALL IS IT IS YOUR LIFE, AND YOU KNOW WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU AND WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY. IF YOU DONT WANT TO DO WHAT YOUR PARENTS EXPECT YOU TO DO THEN JUST RESPECT THEIR OPPINION BUT FIRMLY STATE YOUR CASE THAT YOU WANT TO EXPLORE MORE OPTIONS OR TELL THEM WHAT YOU WANT TO DO.

4.) ASSUMING A JOB WONT BE USEFUL IN BUILDING EXPERIENCE
MANY TIMES PEOPLE THINK THAT THEY HAVE TO CHOOSE A JOB THAT HAS TO DEAL WITH THEY WANT TO DO WITH WHAT THEY WANT TO ACHIEVE LATE ON IN LIFE. IF SOME ONE DOES OFFER YOU A JOB TAKING CARE OF ANIMALS AND YOU WANT TO WORK IN CONSTRUCTION WOULD YOU TAKE IT!? IT WOULD BE A LEARNING EXPERIENCE BECAUSE YOU WOULD LEARN MANY THINGS LIKE BEING UNDER SOMEONES SUPERVISION AND BEING ON TIME, WORKING HARD AND MANY OTHER THINGS LIKE THAT. RANDY SIEGEL A CAREER DEVELOPMENT EXPERT IN ASHEVILLE N.C SAYS "BEING OPEN TO ALL WORK EXPERIENCES. AT THIS POING OF YOUR LIFE, YOU'LL LEARN MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT BY FIGURING OUT WHAT YOU WANT AND DONT WANT. TRIAL AND ERROR IS THE BEST TEACHER."

5.) GOiNG iT ALONE
WHEN STARTING A CAREER AND GOING INTO COLLEGE IT IS VERY GOOD TO HAVE THAT SUPPORT OF EITHER FAMILY MEMBERS, FRIENDS, TEACHERS, COACHES OR EVEN ALL OF THEM. YOUR BEST SHOT WOULD BE TO GET HELP FROM A PROFESSIONAL OR A PROFSOR WHO KNOWS THE FIELD IN A DIFFERENT PERSPECTICE AND THAT IS YOUR BEST SHOT IN BEING REALLY SURE IN WHAT YOU WANT TO DO AND MAJOR IN
.

UP IN ARMS

MANY TEACHERS IN TEXAS ARE ALREADY CARRYING GUNS IN SCHOOLS BECUASE THEY ARE CONCERNED WITH THE SAFETY OF THE STUDENT. THE SCHOOL BOARD VOTED THAT THESE 25 EMPLOYEES TO CARRY THESE WEAPONS TO SCHOOLS BUT THE SCHOOLS SUPERINTENDENT WILL NOT SAY HOW MANY TEACHERS REALLY DO CARRY GUNS ON THEM. MANY PEOPLE SAY THAT HAVING TEACHERS CARRY GUNS IS NOT SUCH A GOOD IDEA BEACUSE THERE REALLY ISNT THAT MUCH SCHOOLS SHOOTINGS AND IT MAKES THE SCHOOL SEEM LESS SAFER.
IN THIS SCHOOL WHERE THEY DO ALLOW THE TEACHERS TO CARRY GUNS, THEY ARE ABOUT 30 MILES FROM THE NEAREST POLICE STATION AND THEY SAID THAT THEY ARE PREPAIRING FOR THE WORST. THEY HAVE CAMERAS IN THEIR SCHOL AND CLASSROOM PHONES AVALIABLE BUT THE SUPERINTENDANT SAYS THAT IS NOT ENOUGH TO KEEP THE LIVES OF THE STUDENTS AND EMPLOYEES SAFE.
WHEN THE SUPERINTENDANT ALLOWS THE EMPLOYEES AT THEIR SCHOOL TO CARRY GUNS THEY ARE PUTTING THE LIVES OF THE STUDENTS AT RISK. THERE ARE LESS THEN 1 % OF STUDENTS THAT ARE KILLED BY SOMEONE ELSE AT SCHOOL AND SCHOOL SHOOTINGS ARE ALSO VERY RARE. WHAT IF ONE OF THE STUDENTS REALLY DOES GET A HOLD OF THE TEACHERS GUN!? THEN WHAT!? SO HAVING THE TEACHERS BRING AND CARRY AROUND GUNS ARE REALLY A BAD AND DANGEROUS THING.
